Allman Brothers (Eat a Peach)

One of the legendary southern rock recordings of all time. Eat a peach was released in 1972 the year following their legendary recording Live at Fillmore East. This double album includes five live songs that did not make it on the Live at Fillmore East recording, the remainder of Eat a Peach is a studio recording. Rereleased on MFSL in 1988 the the recording is now preserved on the best possible studio format available.  Mobile Fidelity released this cd as the Ultra Disc, UDCD 513 - Allman Brothers - Eat a Peach.

At the time of the recording of this album, Duane Allman was in a fatal motorcycle accident. For years it was speculated that Duane hit a peach truck and that the band named this album in tribute to their brother. As the information surfaced about the accident, the reports about Duane were false and he had ran into a lumber truck before he passed away. However, the album was named based on comments made by Duane. Remember at the time of the release of this recording the United States was involved in the Vietnam Conflict and throughout the United States protests had become extremely prevalent. Just proir to the accident in an interview, Duane was asked if he would contribute to the "revolution" that was taking place throughout the country. Duane said in the interview: "Their ain't no revolution, but every time I go to Georgia I eat a peach for peace." With that statement the Allman brothers titled this now famous album.

The recording of Eat a Peach is perfectly suited to the MFSL format.  Two of the bands more famous recordings Little Martha and Melisa require a refined recording to appreciate the beautiful sound that this legendary band created.  Listen to Sweet Melissa and imagine that you are hearing the refined sound that can only be produced by the ultradisk format.  This CD is truely one of the greatest recordings of all time and needs to be heard to be appreciated.
