Live at Leeds MFSL CD

The Who MFSL CD collection is a phenominal set of digital recordings. And with out question, Live at Leeds is one the greatest live albums ever released. Live at Leeds took the amazing set of music produced on many of their previous releases and produced it as a driving powerhouse live album.

Produced by The Who and recorded on Valentine’s Day, 14 February 14 1970 at Leeds University, LIVE AT LEEDS was released in the UK in May 1970. The CD was rereleased several times including as a Ultradisk II from MFSL (MFSL UDCD -755). The MFSL CD gives very clean lines to the unique riffs of Townshend.

LIVE AT LEEDS was produced to feature the early power of the WHO. Released shortly after Tommy, the Who became branded with a soft label and Live at Leeds was produced to remove that label. The simple packaging with a simple stamp of Live at Leeds in the corner demonstrates their return to their roots. The CD even went so far as to introduce crackling in the CD to represent ’sketchy’ electrical connections of that particular day. The remastered 1995 CD amended the note to say the crackling noises had been corrected!

The original LP and CD consisted of just six tracks. These six tracks were just hard core the Who playing some of their best songs. The second release of Live at Leeds incorporated eight extra songs from the concert, while the second featured the entire concert spread over two CDs, the non-TOMMY songs on CD1 with TOMMY occupying all of CD2. The actual production did not feature the songs in the same order as the concert was produced.

LIVE AT LEEDS reached #3 in the UK album charts and #4 in the US.

1. YOUNG MAN BLUES
(Mose Allison)
This song features the amazing guitar riffs of Pete Townshend and strong vocals of Daltrey. The song was performed during The Who’s early incarnation as The High Numbers in 1964, and was resurrected as YOUNG MAN BLUES in 1968, and routinely used during the TOMMY tours of 1969/70.
2. SUBSTITUTE
A classic version of substitute played very close to how it was originally released.
The Who’s fourth single, first released in March 1966.
3. SUMMERTIME BLUES
(Eddie Cochran/Jerry Capehart)
Daltry makes this recording come to live with his vocals. Eddie Cochran would be very proud of the live performance given on this song. A much better live song than a recording could ever be!
4. SHAKIN’ALL OVER
The great guitar lick that is featured throughout this song is catchy. Shakin all over' and then the guitar lick will have you singing the song all day.
5. MY GENERATION
A very long version of the classic My generation.....including a amazing scream by Daltry in the first minute of the recording.
6. MAGIC BUS
It just doesnt get any better than this release of this song. The guitar riffs of Townshend feature amazing feedback and sounds that are not normally heard on many live recordings. As far as recordings go the driving beat of this song is unparalled by old rock live recordings.
Released as a single in September, 1968.
