Eric Clapton MFSL
California’s Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab reissues older, once-successful albums in high-quality sound. Eric Clapton, a renowned blues rock singer and guitarist, has quite a few albums in MFSL format.
Clapton’s records were made out of recycled vinyl and not virgin vinyl. Second or third generation master tapes that were not mastered from originals were used on these kinds of records which led to quality control issues in the 70’s and 80’s. There was even some signs of warpage on many of the albums that sold.
MFSL wanted people who preferred a better sound quality to purchase their albums. While MFSL costs more, many consumers have flocked to stores to purchase records made by them simply for the sound so they could get the full music experience when listening to Eric’s masterpieces.
Eric Clapton‘s MFSL releases:
“Slowhand” (1980/1991)
The first Eric Clapton MFSL album to be released was “Slowhand” in 1980. It was released in MFSL format again in 1991. Originally released in 1977, the album included three of the musician’s most popular singles: “Cocaine,” a blues song, “Wonderful Tonight.” a ballad, and “Lay Down Sally,” which had some country influences. It was one of his most successful albums and it reached #2 on the Billboard Album Charts. Also, according to “Rolling Stone” magazine, it was ranked #325 on their list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.
“Eric Clapton” (1995)
The next Eric Clapton MFSL album that was released was his debut self-titled solo album (“Eric Clapton”) in 1995. It was first released in 1970. More information on the tracks included can be found at this website: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eric_Clapton_(album).
“461 Ocean Boulevard” (1993)
The third Eric Clapton MFSL installment was “461 Ocean Boulevard” in 1993, which first came out in 1974. His inspiration for the album occurred after he quit heroin. He was under a great deal of pressure during the recording sessions for the record, but it was still well-received by his listeners and critics upon release. The album’s title comes from an address of a house on Golden Beach in Miami, Florida where Eric lived for awhile. You’ll see the house on the cover. “Rolling Stone” named this album in their 500 greatest albums of all time at #409.
“Just One Night” (1994)
